The Morel (Morchella) is one of the most sought-after and expensive edible mushrooms in the world. Its honeycomb-like cap and unique, intense aroma make it the first choice in haute cuisine.

Historically, morels were already prized in antiquity. The Romans considered them a delicacy of the gods. In the Middle Ages, they were regarded as an aphrodisiac and served at royal courts.

Botanically, morels are sac fungi (Ascomycetes) that appear in spring - often after forest fires or on disturbed soils. Despite intensive research, commercial cultivation is still not economically viable today.

Culinarily, morels delight with their nutty, earthy aroma. They are indispensable in French cuisine - whether in cream sauces, with veal, or as stuffing for poultry.
